Day 1 – 4 Istanbul, Antioch-on-the-Orontes.
Arrive Istanbul (Day 1 ),
capital to three great empires – Roman,
Byzantine and Ottoman. It
is the only city in the world that stands on two continents,
Europe and Asia.
On Day 2, we visit World famous sites such as the Hippodrome,
the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the
great church of Haghia Sophia and
Justinian’s Basilica Cistern.
On Day 3, we check out our hotel and visit
the ancient city walls and the
Byzantine Golden Gate, St. Savior in Chora,
a Byzantine church with its magnificent mosaics
and frescoes,
and the Mosque of Suleyman
the Magnificent, one of the marking figures of
Istanbul. We fly to Antakya, ancient
Antioch-on-the-Orontes
by a late afternoon flight.
It was the base for St. Paul's missionary
journeys where Jesus' followers were first
called
Christians.
In Antakya, we visit
the Church of St. Peter
where Peter preached and baptised, Antakya Museum which has one of the best
ancient mosaic collections of the world and
stroll around the old city. Antakya has one of
the best cuisines in Turkey. We also visit Harbiye, ancient Daphne
and
Seleuceia in Pieria, the ancient port town
that St. Paul sailed from/to
in his 1th missionary
journey.
Day 5 - 7 . Tarsus, Cappadocia.
We
drive to Cappadocia with a stop at Tarsus,
the birth place of St. John. We
stay in fairy -tale Cappadocia for three
nights. This place
is mentioned specifically by name only twice in
The Bible however
it was among the earliest areas of Christian
activity.
We see rock-cut churches in Goreme Open Air
Museum, Pasa Baglari Monastery, Uchisar fortress, Kaymakli
Underground City and take easy hikes through
wonderful valleys. You may have an optional
ballon tour over this wonderland.
Day 8 - 10. Konya, Antalya,
Laodecia.
On Day 8 we visit Konya,
ancient Iconium and
continue driving
through the Lake District of Turkey. We stop at
Psidian Antioch
where St. Paul turned to Gentiles and overnight
by the Lake Egirdir. On Day 9 we turn south to
Antalya, visit Perge and
Archaelogical Museum before check in.
On Day 10 we drive
4 - 5 hours to Laodecia and then admire
self-built white travertine pools and channels of
Pamukkale,
and ancient Hierapolis. We stay at a thermal
hotel
Day 11 - 14. We visit glorious Ephesus, one of the best
preserved ancient city in the world;
great Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven
Wonders; Basilica of St. John and the House of the Virgin Mary,
and overnight in Kusadasi. The next day we drive
to Izmir, ancient Symrna to see one of
the largest agoras of the ancient world and then
stop at Sardis to visit its massive ruins.
We overnight in Bergama, ancient Pergamon. On
day 13 we visit dazzling ruins of Pergamon
and continue to Assos, a natural and
archaeological beauty, from where Paul, on his
third missionary journey, sailed to Mitylene on
Lesbos Island with Luke. We overnight in
Guzelyali, at the mouth of the Dardanelles. On
day 14 we visit legendary
Troy and return Istanbul.
