The city of Antalya has a magnificent setting on the Mediterranean coast with the mighty Taurus mountain range

surrounding the province.  It was founded by Attalos II, king of Pergamum in 158 BC and named after him. The

ANTALYA ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

Antalya Museum is one of the most important of Turkey's museums that illuminates the history of the Mediterranean

and Antalya regions of Turkey. The Museum won the

“European Council Special Prize” in 1988

OLD TOWN

The charming old town has Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman monuments and 

a spectacular ancient harbor. There

are nice small hotels, restored old houses in the old part where visitors can stay feeling the history.

PERGE

One of the most outstanding sites, Perge is an impressive example of

a metropolitan city of antiquity. It has ruins dating from  Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine eras that give a excellent

idea of ancient city composition.

Aspendos has the best preserved

ancient theater in the world that dates

from the 2nd Century AD. Its stage

building still stands to its full height

and natural beauties. Termessians are

brave warriors fighting for the Trojans

Phaselis is a picturesque ancient port

city. The first founders are believed to

have been the Phonecians, the ancient sea masters of the Mediterranean. It

was colonized by the Greeks in 590 BC.

A Greek foundation in the land of

ancient Lycia. It became a stronghold

of the Cilician pirates in the 1C BC.

Olympus has a beautiful setting among

bay leave trees on the coast.

KEKOVA

One of the most striking sites in the region. A medieval  fort was built over

the foundation of a Hellenistic castle

on the top of Kale Village which was ancient Simena, one of the small settlements of ancient Lycia.

 

 

 

 

myra

MYRA

One of the most powerful cities of

ancient Lycia. In 4 C, St Nicholas was

the bishop of Myra. Today, an 8th C

church stands over the site of an older

one, where he was buried. The most

spectacular part of Myra is its necropolis where tombs were cut into rocks in the 5th and 4th

centuries BC.
